Morrisville State's western team advances to IHSA Nationals

The Morrisville State College western equestrian team finished third at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) semi-finals to advance to the National Championships in May.



University of Findlay was the show's high point team, followed by Utah State University with 25 points, and Morrisville with 24. CalPoly-San Luis Obispo, University of Minnesota, Centenary, University of Florida and Cincinnati rounded out the final scoring of teams.



In team competition, Kelly Hunter (Red Hook, NY) and Tanya Ashford (Wapwallopen, PA) placed second in the beginner and intermediate horsemanship classes, respectively, while Catherine Howland (Rutlandtown, VT) finished third in the reining and open horsemanship classes. Margaret Roberts (Weedsport, NY) was also third in the advanced horsemanship class, while Christine Towne (Rutland, VT) was fifth in the novice horsemanship class.



Three riders advance to nationals in individual competition, including Megan Freemantle (Middlefield, CT) in open reining following a third place finish at the semi's, Breann Schwarting (Earlville, NY) in intermediate western horsemanship, and Wyatt Carbaugh (Greencastle, PA) in beginner horsemanship. Schwarting and Carbaugh both finished in second in their respective classes.



The national championships begin May 4 in Lexington, Kentucky.
