Second half rally lifts Oneonta to 4-0 win over Morrisville State field hockey

Visiting Oneonta State field hockey tallied four second half scores to top host Morrisville State College Saturday morning by a 4-0 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) final on Drake Field in Morrisville.

Morrisville State drops to 1-5 overall, 0-2 in conference play, while Oneonta improves to 4-2 overall, 1-0 in SUNYAC action.

Playing to a scoreless draw after the first period, Oneonta struck early in the second as Suzanne Wright crossed the ball to Andrea Day on the right post for the tip in tally at the 39:54 mark.

Day posted her second tally just over five minutes later, dribbling between the defense and firing the backhanded shot past Morrisville State keeper Ellen DePasquale (Vernon, N.Y.) for the 2-0 Red Dragon lead. DePasquale recorded a collegiate best 13 saves on the day, including eight in the second half, registering the loss in net for the Mustangs.

Within minutes, Oneonta posted a third goal, as Wright fired the shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner opportunity.

Ashley Johnson secured the conference win for the Red Dragons, posting an unassisted score late in the half.

Morrisville State had several opportunities throughout the contest to get on the board, but was turned away by Oneonta keeper Tess Tracy, who registered four saves on the day.

Oneonta held the 45-13 advantage in shots and 16-1 advantage in penalty corners over the Mustangs on the day.

Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, hosting Keystone College at 6 p.m. on Drake Field.
