Stein leads Morrisville State men in 16-10 win over Alfred

Senior midfielder Andrew Stein (Oswego, N.Y.) tallied five goals and assisted two others to lead Morrisville State College men's lacrosse to a 16-10 non-conference win over visiting Alfred University Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.



Morrisville State improves to 2-1 with the victory, while Alfred drops to 1-4 overall.



Seven additional Mustangs contributed to the win, including Devin Maxwell (Culver City, Cali.), Dean Priest (Hinesburg, Vt.), Jeremy Beresovoy (Lafayette, N.Y.) and Jack Martocello (Miller Place, N.Y.) each with two scores apiece. Maxwell and Wilkerson each added two assists to their tallies.



Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) recorded the win in net, making 10 stops for Morrisville State.



Matt Zon and Brett Carroll led Alfred University with two goals each, while six others each tallied one, as Caleb McCaig assisted two.



Cody O'Connor recorded 13 saves in the loss for the Saxons, playing the first 50:55 of the contest, before being relieved by Theo Tomczak for the final 9:05 who made two stops.



Morrisville State led by one after the first quarter before exploding for five tallies in the second quarter to claim the 8-4 advantage at the break.



After an even third quarter, Morrisville State maintained its four goal lead before putting the game away in the final frame with another five goal burst to claim the 16-10 victory.



The Mustangs held the 36-32 advantage in shots and led ground balls 25-21 over the Saxons, while Alfred won the face-off battle 16-14.



Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, hosting Potsdam at 4 p.m. on Drake Field.
