The SUNY Cobleskill men’s lacrosse team dropped their 2013 home opener on Thursday afternoon to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC)   rival Morrisville State College by a 13-4 margin at Cobleskill’s Soccer/Lax Complex. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 2-3 overall on the season including a 0-2 mark in league action while the Mustangs improve to 2-5 overall with a 2-1 mark in NEAC play.

The Fighting Tigers had no answer on how to get a shot past Mustang freshman goalie Chris Fiore, Staten Island, N.Y., New Dorp High School, who posted eight saves while breaking up a number of Cobleskill scoring opportunities on the afternoon.

Offensively the visitors rushed out to a 9-2 halftime advantage, including a pair of shorthanded goals, and never looked back as freshman attackman Casey Jean, Tully, N.Y., Tully High School, scored three goals, passed out an assist and picked up five groundballs while Jean’s former high school teammate freshman midfielder John Sherlock, Tully, N.Y., Tully High School, added three goals, one assist and three groundballs on the afternoon.

Cobleskill was led by freshman midfielder Shane McKay, Hempstead, N.Y., Hempstead High School, who scored a goal and picked up four groundballs in the contest.

The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Saturday April 6 when they travel to Keuka Park, N.Y. to face The Storm of Keuka College in NEAC action beginning at 2:00 p.m. while the Mustangs also will next take the turf on Saturday when they travel to Aurora, N.Y. for a conference meeting with The Express from Wells College at 2:00 p.m.
