Three to be inducted into Morrisville State College Wall of Fame

MORRISVILLE, NY—A four-time national champion, a former NFL wide receiver, and a first-team All-American will be inducted into Morrisville State College’s Wall of Fame on Saturday, June 13.

Inductees are: 

  • Earl Utter, former men’s head ice hockey coach and national champion
  • Julian “BJ” Lovett (Class of 2000), MSC standout who played for the NFL
  • Jennifer Caffarelli (Class of 2009), decorated women’s lacrosse player

The event will begin with a welcome and registration from noon-1 p.m. There will also be a fun run/walk from 1-2 p.m. in addition to campus van tours with members of the athletic department coaching staff. 

The festivities will also include a chicken barbecue in the college’s administrative quad. The induction program will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. in the lobby of the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities (STUAC).

Earl Utter

Utter, former men’s head ice hockey coach, brings an impressive resume to the Wall of Fame. During his 10-year (1997-2007) coaching career at Morrisville State College, Utter claimed five conference championships, five regional championships, and four NJCAA National Championships. 

In each of the four national championship seasons, he was also named the NJCAA Region III Coach of the Year. As coach of the 2001-02 National Championship squad, which was inducted into the Wall of Fame in 2011, the Mustangs compiled a record of 21-0-3. His overall record while at the helm at Morrisville stands at an impressive 177-60-13.

BJ Lovett (’00)

As the preferred receiver of 2007 Wall of Fame inductee Custavious Patterson (’00), Lovett caught 79 passes for 1,230 yards and scored 11 touchdowns during his two year career at Morrisville State. During the 1999 season, Lovett was named all-conference, all-region, and was named an NJCAA All-American at the wide receiver position. 

After graduating from Morrisville State College, Lovett accepted a scholarship to Michigan State where he was a two-year starter for the Spartans and was awarded Most Outstanding Offensive Player honors, and was named the winner of Michigan State’s Downtown Coaches Award. Following his career at Michigan State he spent time in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers and the Cleveland Browns before concluding his playing career in the Arena Football League with the Dayton Warbirds. From 2010-2015, Lovett was also a wide receivers coach for Morrisville State College.

Jennifer Caffarelli (’09)

As a member of the Morrisville State women’s lacrosse team Caffarelli was a prolific scorer, tallying a school record of 10 goals and two assists in a single game against Ohio Weslyan College. Her career totals place her second in career goals. 

As a freshman, Caffarelli earned first team all-region honors, all region tourney team, and NJCAA First Team All-American honors. With a first team All-SUNYAC award to cap off her senior year, she left Morrisville State as the most decorated women’s lacrosse player in school history.
