Townsend earns second team NEAC All-Conference basketball honors

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) recently announced its 2011-12 Women's Basketball All-Conference Team selections, naming Morrisville State College sophomore Nijah Townsend (Bronx, N.Y. / Harry S. Truman) to its second team.



Townsend led Morrisville State in scoring, averaging 16.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, as the Mustangs posted an NCAA best 10-15 record, 8-9 in conference action.



A threat in the post, Townsend controlled the offensive glass for the Mustangs, pulling down 133 offensive boards in 24 games, while adding eight assists, 15 steals and 12 blocks to her tallies on the season.



Throughout the season, she continued to set reach collegiate high benchmarks, earning NEAC Player of the Week honors twice, including following a best performance of 32 points and 16 rebounds in the victory over rival Cazenovia.



Townsend completed the season ranked sixth in the conference overall in scoring and fourth in rebounding, while topping the charts in offensive rebounds. Aside from conference ranks, she also finds herself amidst the top 50 on the NCAA leaderboard, ranking 40th nationally in rebounds per game, and 36th in double-doubles recorded with 12.



The forward is a graduate of Harry S. Truman High and is majoring in individual studies at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Yvette and Desmond Townsend of Bronx.
