Townsend, Longland named Mustang Athletes of the Week

The Morrisville State College athletic department has named women's basketball freshman, Nijah Townsend (Bronx, NY) and junior hockey defenseman Tom Longland (Dunnville, ONT) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the period of January 1 to January 9.



Townsend averaged 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game for the Mustangs in a 0-2 weekend. Against Berks, she tallied 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and turned around the following day and led Morrisville with 16 points and 14 boards.



The 2010 graduate of Harry S. Truman High is majoring in criminal justice at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Yvette and Desmond Townsend of Bronx.



Longland contributed four assists in a 1-2 start to the final half of the season for the Mustangs. Against Castleton, Longland led Morrisville with two assists and followed with another in the win over St. Michaels. His performance earned him All-Tournament Team honors at the St. Michael's Holiday Classic.



Against #6 Manhattanville, Longland brought his season assist total to eight, and currently ranks third in scoring with two goals and eight assists.



A two-sport student-athlete for Morrisville State, Longland is majoring in human performance and health promotion at Morrisville State. He is the son of Carol and John Longland of Dunnville, Ontario.
