MORRISVILLE, NY—Roberta H. Sloan, of Utica, has been named Morrisville State College’s 2015 Distinguished Faculty Award winner.

The award is presented annually to a faculty member who displays professional growth, personal and professional achievement, and has provided outstanding service to the college. She will be recognized during the college’s 104th commencement ceremony on May 9 at 1 p.m. in the recreation center.

Sloan, associate professor of computer and information technologies, has worked at Morrisville State College since 2003. She is a native of New Hartford.

Active in campus governance, she served as speaker of faculty congress, vice speaker, and was a representative to faculty congress and the college senate. Throughout her teaching career, she has remained active serving on campus committees and has been instrumental in curriculum and course development, while also presenting at numerous conferences.

Students admire the integration of technology in her classroom, which provides them with an in-depth understanding of technology and concepts. One of her notable technology accolades was writing and receiving a grant from which she piloted the campus eTextbook and iPad program. That program eventually led to a published research paper.

Roberta earned her Ph.D. from Capella University, an M.G.A. from the University of Maryland, and a B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis.

Morrisville State’s curricula are enriched with applied learning and pave the way for opportunity at both the Morrisville and Norwich campuses. An action-oriented, interactive learning lab, the college is a national leader in technology and has been lauded for its exemplary, innovative and effective community service programs.

In addition to being named to the 2014 President’s Higher Community Education Service Honor Roll, the college was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as an institution in the top tier of the Best Regional Colleges list and ranked second among regional colleges nationwide for outperforming its anticipated graduation rate.
