Have a clever business idea? The 2018 Cotton Business Idea Competition is giving Morrisville State College students a chance to take their idea to the next level—and earn some cash.

Business ideas should address several questions:

  • Does it solve a problem?
  • Who will use the product or service?
  • What is the benefit of the product or service?
  • How do you plan to make money or fund the idea?

Students can submit their business idea or service individually or as a team. Applications open Monday, Jan. 15 and are due online by Thursday, Feb. 8. To submit a business idea, go to www.morrisville.edu/forms/businessidea.aspx.

Ten finalists will be selected to present their ideas to a panel of entrepreneurs from the local community on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. in the hospitality suite of the athletic stadium.

Similar to the television reality show Shark Tank, which features business pitches from aspiring entrepreneurs to a panel of potential investors, teams will have four minutes to pitch their ideas, followed by a Q&A with a panel of judges.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

Sponsored through the Department of Business and Entrepreneurship, the competition is supported by Douglas and Susan Cotton, entrepreneurs and generous college donors, to further Morrisville students’ entrepreneurial endeavors.
