Have a clever business idea? The 2017 Cotton Business Idea Competition is giving Morrisville State College students a chance to take their idea to the next level—and earn some cash.

Business ideas should address several questions: Does it solve a problem? Who will use the product or service? What is the benefit of the product or service? How do you plan to make money or fund the idea?

Students can submit their business idea or service, as a team or an individual, online. Applications open Jan. 16 and are due online by Feb. 3. To submit a business idea, go to www.morrisville.edu/forms/businessidea.aspx.

Eight finalists will be selected Feb. 10 to present their idea to a panel of entrepreneurs from the local Morrisville area on Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. on campus.

Similar to the television reality show, Shark Tank, which features business pitches from aspiring entrepreneurs to a panel of potential investors, teams will have four minutes to pitch their ideas, followed by a Q&A with a panel of judges.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

Sponsored through the Department of Business and Entrepreneurship, the competition is supported by Douglas and Susan Cotton, entrepreneurs and generous college donors, to further MSC students’ entrepreneurial endeavors.

A business plan competition is also planned for the fall.
