Women's soccer falls to SUNY IT 8-2

SUNY IT scored five first half goals on their way to beating Morrisville State College 8-2 in conference play on Saturday.

Stephanie Wurz opened up the scoring for the Wildcats when she took a pass from Abbey Hanehan and slotted the ball near post past Mustangs goalkeeper, Jennifer Zidzik (Lambertville, N.J.). Abbey Hanehan scored her first of four on the day next when she finished a pass from Katie Driscoll.

Sophomore midfielder Krista Baxter (Downsville, N.Y.) brought the score to within one when she touched a pass from Colleen Thomas (Barton, N.Y.) past the Wildcats defense and finished a breakaway goal.

Kristine Strang, Jamie Elderbroom and Hanehan scored the next three goals of the half for SUNY IT, bringing the score to 5-1 at halftime.

Morrisville State College struck first in the second half when Courtney Purcell (Fabius, N.Y.) tallying the goal with the assist going to Franny Babbitt (Caneadea, N.Y.).

The Wildcats didn’t let up, however, and answered back with three more goals, making the final score 8-2.

Zidzik recorded the loss for the Mustangs tallying 12 saves, while Aubrey Campbell and Margaret Werenczek shared the win for the Wildcats each recording one save and giving up one goal.

Morrisville State College falls to 0-4-1 overall and 0-3 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play.

The Mustangs return to action on Wednesday, September 19th as they are on the road against conference opponent SUNY Cobleskill.
