Morrisville State College's Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) has been named to the 2012 Division III SynapseSports.com Women's Lacrosse All-Rookie Squad, as announced late last week.

The Mustangs completed the 2012 season with a program best 13-6 overall record, claimed the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West regular season title with a perfect 9-0 record, won the NAC West Championship Tournament title, and made a program first appearance in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Mid-Atlantic Championship Tournament.

Part of Morrisville State's success was due to a stellar freshman campaign by Wood, who tallied a team best 84 goals and 19 assists for 103 team points. Three of her scores were game winning tallies and 23 were on free position opportunities. Wood also tallied 65 ground balls, had 72 draw controls and caused a team high 42 caused turnovers.

The NAC West Rookie of the Year earned first team all-conference honors at attack and was a three time Student-Athlete of the Week selection for the conference this season, twice for offense and once for defense.

During the season, Wood posted a collegiate best nine goals and an assist in a 22-10 win over Medaille, and had a single game high, 11 ground balls and eight draw controls, in the loss to Potsdam.

The graduate of Holy Names Academy in Albany is majoring in liberal arts and sciences: humanities and social science at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Michelle and David Wood of Duanesburg.
