After Dan Akers graduated from the SUNY Morrisville Automotive Technology Program in 1990, he 'turned wrenches' for over 17 years at a busy dealership in Syracuse, NY. Dan left his position as the Shop Foreman and returned to SUNY Morrisville in 2007 to begin his career as an Automotive Technology Educator in the Ford ASSET Program.

Over the years, society has become increasingly dependent on technology. It is imperative for people to understand how devices work rather than taking them for granted. I feel that it is necessary to apply ourselves towards becoming problem solvers. If we become too complacent, we risk turning into a society of followers rather than leaders. As a professor in the Automotive Department, Matt Heckerman teaches Electronic Fuel Systems and Engine Performance/Drivability courses.  He has earned both an associate's and bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology from SUNY Morrisville, and a master's degree in Vocational Education from SUNY Oswego.

As a professor in the Automotive Department, Loren Maki teaches Automotive Electrical and Electronic Diagnostic courses.  He has earned an associate's degree in Automotive Technology from SUNY Morrisville, a bachelor's degree in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from Cornell University, and a master's degree in Information Design and Technology from SUNY Polytechnic.
