Extended Pause of Campus Visitors

Dear Campus Community,

In an effort to limit campus density and promote health and safety, a two-week pause of all campus visitors was put into effect on Monday, Aug. 31, and was set to end this coming Monday, Sept. 14.

To further emphasize our prioritization of the campus community’s health and safety, this pause has now been extended to remain in effect until Monday, October 5. This decision helps provide SUNY Morrisville with the most accurate and easiest-to-track results as the college begins more frequent COVID-19 pooled testing administered to students, as well as the testing of our wastewater twice a week through the use of five collection sites throughout campus.

The increase in pooled testing should provide accurate and rapid results (24-48 hours after receipt of pools) to the college, while increased wastewater sample testing provides the ability to test for the presence of COVID-19 in our campus buildings, including each of our 10 residence halls. Should traces of COVID-19 be found in the wastewater for a specific building on campus, pooled saliva testing could then be rapidly administered to help narrow down and halt the spread of the virus.

While we understand this extended pause may come as disappointing news, we want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we determine these difficult decisions based on the health and wellbeing of the campus community, as well as with guidance and/or direction received from the State of New York and the Office of the Governor.

SUNY Morrisville continues to have no positive COVID-19 cases on campus. To view Morrisville's data on COVID-19 testing and other vital information, please visit the SUNY COVID-19 Case Tracker and select "Morrisville" from the campus dropdown menu.

This visitor policy is subject to change at any time and will be updated as the needs of the college change due to the COVID-19 pandemic, or at the direction of the NYS Governor’s Office. Thank you and stay safe!
