Morrisville State College honors students, graduates

The School of Science and Technology at Morrisville State College awarded the following scholarships to students, graduates.



The School of Science and Technology Award, based on academic excellence and campus involvement, was presented to Amber Jones, of Rome, Joshua Young of Sherburne and Daniel Cleveland, of Sherburne.



Cleveland, a liberal arts and science- math and science graduate, also received the Malcolm B. Galbreath Scholarship. Ariel Franklin, of Pike and Jedidiah Lamont, of Waterville were student recipients as well. The award is in honor of Malcolm B. Galbreath, the third president of Morrisville State College, under whose leadership the Engineering Departments were started.



The Alumni Association Award was presented to Thomas Longland, of Dunnville, Ontario, a human performance and health promotion graduate.



The Crawford Scholarship was presented to Sabrina Johnson, of Syracuse, a human performance and health promotion student. This scholarship, based on academic performance, is given at the end of the freshman year to a student majoring in a traditional science field.



Jordan Smith, of Richland received the Madge Snyder Scholarship. This award is given annually to a student considering a career in biology who excels academically and represents citizenship.



The Tony Patane Award, presented to an African-American or Latino student in an engineering technology program based on character and academic achievement, was presented to Rockline De Freitas, of Brooklyn, a mechanical engineering technology student.



Jonathan Fried, of Jordan, a Nursing graduate, received the Carolyn A Thompson Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is given in memory of Carolyn Thompson, a long time professor here at Morrisville State College who passes unexpectedly. The scholarship is given to a student who has completed 30 hours or more at Morrisville.



Receiving Follett Foundation Scholarships were: Penny Kuhn, of Sherburne, a recent nursing graduate, and Karlie Burns, of Smyrna, April Wakefield, of Norwich, Jennifer Manley, of Norwich, and Nino Fuller, of Mt. Upton, all nursing students.



The Biology and Chemistry Department Faculty Award, presented to a student in one of the five programs within the department which is based on academics, community or campus involvement or family service, was awarded to Joseph Torres, of New York, NY.



The New York State Federation of Home Bureaus, Inc. Scholarship was presented to Dana Beebe, of Rochester and Cora Ashcraft, of Norwich. Recipients of this award are evaluated based on need, leadership, and residence in a county where the Federation of Home Bureaus, Inc. has an organized chapter.



The Tioga Hardwoods Award was presented to Ted Greenfield, of Chittenango, a wood product technology student and Terri Smith, of Sherburne, a wood product technology graduate.



Greenfield, also was presented the W. J. Cox Memorial Scholarship.



The Distinguished Nursing Student Award, presented to a graduating senior nursing student who has demonstrated professional attributes and leadership abilities and a commitment to lifelong learning, was awarded to Stephanie Tabolt, of Waterville.



The Automotive Faculty Award, given to a first-year automotive student(s) and based on academic achievement and good character, was presented to Michael Brown, of DeRuyter, an automotive technology student.



The Albany Rodz and Kustoms Award, given to an outstanding automotive bachelor of technology student, was presented to Daniel Mirocco, of Morrisville.



The David Vockins Memorial Scholarship was presented to Brent Clark, of Chittenango, an automotive technology, bachelor of technology student. In memory of David Vockins, a 1967 automotive technology graduate, recipients of this award are evaluated based on merit, good character, citizenship and campus involvement.



The George Cuney Memorial Scholarship was presented to William Wetzel, of Dobbs Ferry. This award, established by the Automotive Department in honor of the late Morrisville State College professor, George Cuney, is given to students who display campus citizenship and campus and community involvement, which emulate the late professor.



Receiving the Howard H. Bohling Automotive Tech Scholarship was Ryan Hunt, of Auburn, an automotive technology student.



The William Morehouse/Mohawk Valley Home Builders and Remodelers Scholarship was presented to Jeremiah Brown, of New Woodstock and Nathan Hughes, of Utica. The award is presented to residential construction students based on academic achievement and leadership.
