Visiting Morrisville State College women’s volleyball closed out the 2012 season campaign Saturday, falling in a 3-0 match decision to host Keuka in Keuka Park. The Mustangs ended the season with a 5-18 overall record, after Keuka posted the 25-16, 25-16 and 28-26 set victories. Kylie Murphy (Nichols, N.Y.) led Morrisville State’s efforts, registering eight kills, seven defensive digs and a solo block, while teammate Dana Maythenyi (Fallsburg, N.Y.) added four kills, assisted one, and had three assisted blocks at the net.
The Morrisville State College hunt seat equestrian team opened the 2012-2013 season Saturday with a third place finish at the Hartwick College Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Invitational held in Oneonta. Morrisville State tallied 33 team points in the show, being topped by show champion Skidmore (47) and reserve champion Hartwick (38).
It was a slow start for the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team, but a five-goal third period gave the Cardinals a 6-1 victory against Morrisville State in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener Friday night at the Stafford Ice Arena. The Mustangs (0-2-0, 0-1-0 SUNYAC) took an early 1-0 lead when Ryan Marcuz fired a shot that beat Plattsburgh goaltender Josh Leis top shelf. Marc-Antoine Chaput picked up the assist on Morrisville’s lone goal at 10:16 of the first period.
The Morrisville State College athletics department has named freshman Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) and senior Austin Townsley (Horseheads, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 21. Larkin, goalkeeper on the men’s soccer team, recorded his fifth collegiate shutout during the week as Morrisville State posted the 1-0 victory over Wells College. In the contest, he turned away five crucial Express shots to earn his 12th victory of the season, and guarantee a spot for the Mustangs in the conference championship tournament.
The Morrisville State College women’s soccer team concluded their 2012 season today with a 6-0 loss to Keuka College. The Storm was led by Jessica Barndrowski who scored three goals and an assist on the day, while Nicole Sharick added two goals and an assist of her own. The Mustangs had their opportunities, taking 11 shots, but could not find the back of the net.   Jennifer Zidzik (Lambertville, N.J.) recorded the loss for the Mustangs, tallying six saves, while Maggie Tower earned the win for Keuka with three saves.
The Morrisville State College men’s soccer team wrapped up their 2012 regular season with a conference victory over visiting Keuka College Tuesday evening, 4-1. With the win, the Mustangs improved to 13-4-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the conference. The Mustangs struck early when Gilroy Alvarez (Guatemala) collected a long corner kick from Joey Plummer and rifled a shot past Storm goalkeeper Preston Vick. Sanley Pierre-Louis scored his first of three at 44:26, giving Morrisville State a 2-1 lead going into halftime. Alvarez earned the assist on the goal.
Senior Austin Townsley (Horseheads, N.Y.) won the men’s race outright Saturday afternoon at the Wells College Invitational in Aurora, N.Y., leading the men’s team to a first place finish.
The Morrisville State Mustangs lost a heartbreaker Saturday afternoon to the Wells College Express, 3-2 in double overtime, as they played their second annual Goals for a Cure game. The Mustangs came out strong, scoring the first goal of the match at 6:51 when Lindsay Peri (Marathon, N.Y.) touched a pass from Nicole Achtyl (North Collins, N.Y.) past the final line of defense before burying a shot past Express goalkeeper Ashley Roser.
The Morrisville State College men’s soccer team came away with a 1-0 victory against visiting conference rival Wells College, Saturday evening in Morrisville, N.Y., in a game that was largely battled in the midfield. Sanley Pierre-Louis (Gaithersburg, Md.) and Jacob Chase (Cooperstown, N.Y.) teamed up for the lone goal of the contest at 28:35, as Pierre-Louis gathered a pass through the defense from Chase and buried the ball in the corner of the net.
Junior quarterback Ryan Gresik threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns to lead visiting William Paterson University to a 31-6 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) victory Saturday afternoon over host Morrisville State College in Morrisville. The Pioneers improve to 3-4 overall, 1-4 in conference play, while the Mustangs drop to 1-6 overall, 1-4 in NJAC action.
