Morrisville State fought back from a two goal deficit to tie the game at three, but couldn’t hold on as they lost the 4-3 decision to host Gallaudet in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C.
Sophomore Amanda Hunt (Tunkhannock, P.A.) and senior Austin Townsley (Horseheads, N.Y.) were top finishers for the Morrisville State College women’s and men’s cross country teams at the CCOC Championships, Saturday held at Hobart College. The women’s team ran to an 8th place finish out of 16 teams, while the men finished 7th out of 17 teams.
Freshman running back Emmanuel Johnson (Staten Island, N.Y.) pounded the ball over the goal line with 36 seconds remaining in the contest to lift visiting Morrisville State College football in a 34-33 come-from-behind thriller over host Western Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon in Danbury. Morrisville State notches their first win of 2012 and improves to 1-5 overall, 1-3 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action, while WestConn has yet to find a win as they drop to 0-6 overall, 0-5 in conference play.
The Morrisville State College men’s soccer team defeated host Gallaudet University, 5-1, Saturday afternoon in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play. With the win, the Mustangs improve to 10-4-1 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play.
Host Morrisville State College women’s volleyball appeared for the first time on the Mustangs newly renovated court and didn’t hesitate as they claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over visiting Paul Smith College Friday evening in Morrisville. The Mustangs improve to 5-13 overall with the win, while the Bobcats drop to 3-15. Morrisville State dominated the first two matches, claiming the set wins with 25-8 scores before posting a come-from-behind victory in the third with a set final of 25-20 to take the match.
Katie Flaschner (East Amherst, NY/The Nichols School) scored one goal and set up three others as the University of Rochester defeated Morrisville State, 8-1, in field hockey at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Morrisville State College head ice hockey coach, Brian Grady, has announced his resignation after five seasons at the helm of the program. Under direction of Grady, the Mustangs posted an overall record of 35-88-3, as he guided the program to the State University of New York Athletic Conference play-offs twice. Morrisville State posted a season best 11-13-1 record in 2010-11 since making the transition to the NCAA, and was a program best 8-7-1 in SUNYAC play that same season, reaching the conference tournament for the second time in the program’s NCAA history.
The Morrisville State College athletics department has named freshman Kylie Murphy (Nichols, N.Y.) and sophomore Gilroy Alvarez (Guatemala) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 7. Murphy, freshman outside hitter for the women’s volleyball team, completed the week with 30 kills, 10 service aces and 57 defensive digs to lead the Mustangs.
The Morrisville State men’s soccer team fell to nonconference opponent SUNY Canton Wednesday night, 1-0, in Morrisville, NY. The Mustangs drop to 9-4-1 overall and remain 4-1-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play. After playing a scoreless first half, SUNY Canton took advantage of an early opportunity in the second half when Shane Powell thread the ball through the Mustang defense to Marvin Palmer, who finished the shot past Morrisville goalkeeper Rob Larkin just over a minute into the half.
The Morrisville State College men’s soccer program together with the campus and community, raised more than $2,400 for the Italian American Coalition for Kids (IACK), a not-for-profit organization that assists families in need in the Upstate New York region.
