SUNY Morrisville hires new dean of School of Agriculture, Business & Technology

MORRISVILLE, N.Y.— Stevie Watson is the new dean of the School of Agriculture, Business & Technology at SUNY Morrisville, beginning July 1. 

Watson comes to SUNY Morrisville with extensive experience in the educational arena as a former academic administrator at two universities. Watson is the first dean of Morrisville’s School of Agriculture, Business & Technology, one of two new schools within the college formed after reorganizing and restructuring programs previously spread across four schools.

“Dr. Watson has demonstrated interest in fields of study beyond his own, and has an impressive set of skills and experience,” said Barry Springs, SUNY Morrisville provost. “He brings a unique blend of leadership, academic and professional experience, all of which are required to carry out the mission of the college.” 

Most recently, Watson served as dean of the School of Business at Edgewood College, in Madison, Wisconsin, and chair of the Department of Management, Marketing & Public Administration at Bowie State University in Maryland. 

Prior to Bowie State University, he served as a fulltime marketing faculty member at leading research institutions including Rutgers Business School (New Jersey) and the University of Dayton (Ohio). He also served on the faculty at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York.

Watson has additional work experience as a financial analyst, business information specialist and marketing analyst at Bryan Foods, a Sara Lee company.

An award-winning educator and scholar, Watson has worked with numerous organizations on marketing and business consulting projects. In addition to his expertise in market research and consulting, he is well-versed in employee development, public speaking, diversity and inclusion, executive advisory board management, program development and community relations.

Throughout his career, he has received numerous accolades, including the 2003 Outstanding Doctoral Student Researcher Award in the College of Business and Industry at Mississippi State University, and the 2006 American Academy of Advertising Doctoral Dissertation Grant Competition Award for his research in ethnic advertising.

In 2010, he was named as one of five national recipients of the prestigious Ernst & Young Inclusive Excellence Award for Accounting and Business School Faculty. His current research interests include societal issues in marketing, ethnic and racial studies, and retail service failures and recovery strategies. 

Watson’s research has been published in the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Journal of Marketing Communications and many other notable academic journals.

Watson earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing, a Master of Business Administration degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in business administration (marketing), all from Mississippi State University.
