Mustangs are returning to campus and President Michelle Coach is right in the middle of the action, helping students and their families carry boxes, settle into residence halls and begin their new academic year at SUNY Morrisville.
Just two days into her tenure as the college’s ninth president, Coach is already getting to know the Mustang community, connecting with students, families, faculty and staff as residence halls fill and campus comes alive for the start of the semester.
For new students, move-in day marks the beginning of a new chapter, while for Coach, it offers an early opportunity to experience the excitement alongside them.
Environmental conservation science major Dylan Delerme traveled from Queens with his family, eager to begin his journey at Morrisville.
“This is all new to me and I am really looking forward to the overall experience,” he said. He brought along his lucky book bag, which carried him through high school.
In another residence hall room, Vivien McLoughlin, an equine science major from Vermont, was making her room feel like home. She cut out photos and created a wall collage featuring family, friends and pets while her mom and best friend hung lights from the ceiling.
For equine students Madelyn Deloreme and Abreale Campbell, move-in day was their first time meeting in person as roommates. The two had been coordinating by phone before arriving and worked together to decorate their pink-themed room, complete with lights.
Welcome Weekend continues through Sunday, Aug. 23. The weekend features information sessions, campus activities and social events designed to help get students acquainted with campus, meet their classmates and prepare for the academic year. Classes begin Monday, Aug. 24.
