The ending couldn’t have played out any more perfectly than it did Saturday night, when Morrisville State College men’s ice hockey took SUNY Potsdam into overtime and dramatically posted a 5-4 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory. But what meant more than just the win on the ice, was the game that was being played to raise awareness for autism, organized by Mustang captain Jamie Nelson (Stratford, Ontario).
The night couldn’t have been captured any better than Morrisville State captain, Jamie Nelson (Stratford, Ontario) posting the game winner with a mere 1.2 seconds remaining in the sudden victory period to lift host Morrisville State College over visiting SUNY Potsdam by a 5-4 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) final on a night that was meant to serve as something more, an awareness and fundraising campaign for Autism, organized by Nelson. The victory lifts the Mustangs to 2-15-2 overall, 2-8 in conference play. Potsdam drops to 6-10-1, 3-6 in the SUNYAC.
Visiting Penn State Berks used an opening 19-0 run in the second half en route to a 74-57 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over host Morrisville State College Sunday afternoon in Morrisville. The Mustangs drop to 1-15 overall, 1-7 in conference action, while the Nittany Lions post a 5-10 overall mark, 4-5 in NEAC play.
