Visiting ninth ranked SUNY Plattsburgh scored twice in the third period to claim the 4-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over host Morrisville State College hockey Friday night in Morrisville.

The Mustangs fall to 1-15-2 overall, 1-8 in the SUNYAC, while the Cardinals post a 12-5-1 overall record (7-1-1 in conference play).

Playing a majority of the opening period down due to penalties, Morrisville State killed off four straight, including a major and kept the Cardinals at length until the 18th minute when Connor Gorman posted a shorthanded score for the 1-0 lead.

Kevin Emmerling extended Plattsburgh’s lead to two at the 13:03 mark in the second period, taking advantage of another power play opportunity.

Early in the third, Morrisville State’s Anthony Scornaienchi (Stoney Creek, Ontario) deflected a feed from Zach Baker (Denver, Colorado) and James Jarvis (Pickering, Ontario) off Plattsburgh goaltender, Mathieu Cadieux, into the back of the net to bring the Mustangs within one.

Plattsburgh took advantage of a Mustang hooking penalty nearly seven minutes later, posting their second power play score and regaining a two goal margin.

Patrick Jobb secured the win for the Cardinals, registering an empty net score as time expired.

Christopher Azzano (Oshawa, Ontario) record the loss between the pipes, posting 34 saves, 15 alone in the opening stanza, in 58:44 of play.

Cadieuz had 19 on the night.

Morrisville State returns to the ice tomorrow, hosting SUNY Potsdam at 7 p.m. for an Autism Awareness fundraising drive.
