Morrisville State lands spot on ECAC Mid-Atlantic Lacrosse All-Star Team; Wood earns first team accolades

The ECAC announced its 2013 Division III Mid-Atlantic Women’s Lacrosse All-Star Awards, naming Morrisville State College sophomore midfielder, Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) to its first team.

Wood played a significant role in Morrisville State’s success this season, wrapping up another stellar season leading the team in scoring with 88 goals and 25 assists for 113 team points, with 20 of her scores coming on free position opportunities. Six of her tallies were game winners.

Starting all 18 games at midfield, Wood also compiled 67 ground balls collected a team high 68 draw controls, causing a team high 36 turnovers. 

A two-time NEAC Player of the Week and ECAC Mid-Atlantic Co-Offensive Player of the Week selection this season, she ranks in the top four in seven different categories in conference play, and is ranked nationally in nine different categories, as high as sixth in goals scored per game, and sixth in points scored per game.

Named a first team all-Conference selection this season, the sophomore became the all-time career assist leader at Morrisville State in just her second season of play, and is closing in on the all-time goals and points leader categories as well.

She was the NAC West Rookie of the Year, ECAC Rookie of the Year, and earned first team All-Conference honors, while taking home Synapsesports.com All-Rookie Squad honors last season.

A graduate of Holy Names Academy, Wood is majoring in journalism and communication for online media at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Michelle and David Wood of Duanesburg.
