SUNY Morrisville students put their dairy industry knowledge to the test at the Northeast Regional Dairy Challenge, working with students from other colleges to evaluate dairy farms, identify potential challenges and recommend solutions.

Held at Greek Peak Resort in Cortland, the competition challenged students to assess a dairy farm and develop a presentation of their recommendations within 24 hours. The following day, teams presented their findings to a panel of judges who evaluated their recommendations and presentation quality.

The goal is to give farm owners fresh perspectives and practical ideas for addressing challenges and improving their operations while giving students valuable experience applying what they learn in the classroom to real-world situations.

Students competed in teams four to five, with members representing different colleges, encouraging collaboration and the exchange of ideas among future dairy industry professionals.

SUNY Morrisville student Julianna Tomcho was part of a team that earned second place for its evaluation of Farm 2. Another Morrisville student team, which included SUNY Morrisville student Reese DeVito, earned fourth place for its evaluation of Farm 1.

The competition brought together 10 SUNY Morrisville students, providing opportunities to strengthen their analytical, communication and teamwork skills while learning from students at other colleges.
