“Community Action Project: Silhouette Fundraiser for Help Restore Hope”

Overview: As a result of the HUMS 101 Community Action Assignment in fall 2020, an idea about raising money and raising awareness evolved into an internship for the spring 2020 semester. The theme of the assignment was to take action to create change around social justice. My group decided to develop a fundraiser for the Help Restore Hope program in the community by building wooden silhouettes of survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence. This evolved into an internship where we have involved advocates from the program as well as the college's wood products program to help build the silhouettes and request donations to support and sponsor these being shared across the Chenango County community.
