MORRISVILLE, NY—SUNY Morrisville was formally awarded as the Grand National Champion of the 2018 U.S. Open College Beer Championship, as presented to the college that brews the best beers in North America.
The presentation was held at the Copper Turret Restaurant & Brewhouse, Morrisville’s student-teaching facility where the championship beers were brewed before the college was crowned as champions last May.

SHERBURNE, NY—Talon Abrams has been fascinated with amphibians and reptiles since he was 4 years old, catching snakes and frogs in a backyard creek at his Madison home. Some even made their way into his bedroom so he could examine them more closely in a glass bowl.
That allure eventually led him to SUNY Morrisville to pursue a bachelor’s degree in renewable resources technology. He wants to land in a career where he can help aquatic life, animals and the environment.

“A college degree will open so many doors,” said the single mother, from Norwich, who made the decision to go to college at age 32 to make a better life for herself and her children.

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College student Unique Wellington chose a cow he named “Heffy” for his first time presenting in the ring.
“She was the friendliest of the group,” he said of the heifer he showed during the college’s Spring Showmanship event. Approximately 60 students, some skilled and others with no experience, showed lambs, dairy cows and beef cattle during the annual event.

MORRISVILLE, NY—With a measuring tape in her hand, Morrisville dairy student Leila Richmond dutifully determined the dimensions of a large tie stall barn at Ju-Vindale Holsteins, a dairy farm in Cazenovia.
The measurements were part of her assignment in the college’s Dairy Herd Management class taught by Steve Mooney, associate professor of dairy science and department chair, to determine the feeding and drinking space allotted for cows in the facility.

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College will host its fifth annual Milk Run on Friday, April 20, to benefit the experiential learning activities of the agricultural science, business and dairy programs.
The family-friendly event is a five-kilometer (5K) run, walk or crawl open to all skill levels. The race begins at 6 p.m. in the Marshall Hall parking lot, with race-day registration and packet pickup from 4:30-5:45 p.m.

Farmers interested in growing 10 acres of hemp must submit an application (link below).
Selected participants will receive seed, soil testing and crop consulting in return for planting, fertilizing and harvesting the crop.
