MORRISVILLE, NY—Teams of four students had 18 minutes and a few simple rules. Their task: to build the tallest freestanding tower out of 20 sticks of spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string and one marshmallow, which had to be on top.  Dyllon Amodio, a student from West Genesee High School, and his teammates, relied on the string as the main component that helped them master their challenge and take home a win. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College took home several accolades from the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)/Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) National Leadership Conference, which was held this summer in Chicago, Ill.  Matthew Reape, an information technology management graduate, from Watertown, placed third in Networking Concepts and fourth in Cyber Security. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Hamilton resident Michael Cappeto will serve as Morrisville State College’s interim provost and vice president for academic affairs while the college searches for a permanent provost.  Cappeto has an extensive career in higher education that spans 40 years. During that time, he has assumed administrative roles across a broad spectrum including student affairs, enrollment management, institutional research, college teaching, and academic affairs. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College’s horse racing programs notched another victory, this time with one of its Standardbreds, at the Vernon Downs harness racing track.  The July 6 race was a mark in both the driver’s and horse’s career.

MORRISVILLE, NY—The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus and DCMO BOCES are partnering to offer a summer teaching workshop, Using Nature and Research in the Classroom, at the Riverbend Golf Course, in New Berlin. There are three dates to choose from: July 22, July 29 or August 5. Sessions are limited to 15 people. 

MORRISVILLE, NY— Morrisville State College will host more than 1,000 high school junior boys and staff at this year’s American Legion Boys State program Boys State government camp June 26-July 2. Attendees were chosen based on their exceptional qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty, and service to their schools.

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College equine students had a lot to cheer about last week when a second horse claimed victory at the Finger Lakes Racetrack.  The most recent win, on June 12, went to Hot Idea, a Brown Mare trained by Dr. Clyde Cranwell, associate professor and director of the college’s Thoroughbred program.  It’s the college’s second win of the season. The first win on June 9, went to Don’t Back Down, a Bay Gelding trained by Cranwell. 

MORRISVILLE, NY — The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of Commissioners has reaffirmed accreditation of the business programs at Morrisville State College.

MORRISVILLE, NY— One of Morrisville State College’s Thoroughbreds raced its way to victory at the Finger Lakes Racetrack June 9.  The win went to Don’t Back Down, a Bay Gelding trained by Dr. Clyde Cranwell, associate professor and director of the college’s Thoroughbred program, for a $9,000 purse. The horse, purchased as a yearling, was broke and trained with students in MSC’s Thoroughbred racing program. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Two Morrisville State College students are recipients of the SUNY Chancellor’s 2014-2015 Scholar Athlete Award, which recognizes outstanding academic excellence and athletic achievement.  Receiving the award are:

MORRISVILLE, NY— “Gentlemen start your engines. Or try.” That was the key phrase that jump-started the FORD/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition held recently outside of Morrisville State College’s automotive technology building.  And with those words, Tyler Farley and Izack Alvarado, from the OCM BOCES Henry Campus in Syracuse, quickly went to work trying to find the “bugs” in a 2015 Ford Fiesta. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State Athletic Director Greg Carroll announced today that Erin Skaradek has been named head coach for women’s basketball. She will officially begin her duties on July 1.

MORRISVILLE, NY— A sea of green decorated the Morrisville State College recreation center during the college’s 104th commencement exercises held today. Graduates donned green caps and gowns and celebrated alongside family and friends amid a stage adorned with a lavish display of flowers, grown by students in the college’s horticulture program and arranged by graduating seniors from the program. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Dr. David E. Rogers, of Nelson, will become the eighth president of Morrisville State College. Dr. Rogers was appointed today by The State University of New York Board of Trustees. His appointment is effective on or about June 1, 2015. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Hank deGlee considers himself an average high school student. He enjoys playing sports, hanging out with friends, hunting and working on his family’s dairy farm. But aside from the regularities of his normal life as a high school teen playing football and tackling trigonometry and calculus, the 18-year-old from South New Berlin is anything but average.

MORRISVILLE, NY—More than 1,000 of the best high school students and future NYS agricultural leaders will converge on the Morrisville State College campus as it hosts this year’s State FFA Convention May 14-16. Local chapters attending the event include, the Madison, Stockbridge Valley, DeRuyter, Cazenovia, VVS, and Hamilton. 

MORRISVILLE, NY— The best and brightest eleventh- and twelfth-grade student automotive technicians from across the state will race against the clock to correctly identify and fix vehicles that have been “bugged” on purpose.  When it is all said and done, one team will drive away the winner of the FORD/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition being held at Morrisville State on May 8.
