The Empire 8 Athletic Conference officially announced the addition of Morrisville State College as an affiliate member beginning with the 2015 season.

Matt McDaniels stood calmly, his adrenaline racing as a masked man pointed a rifle at a tavern employee demanding money. After verbal commands to drop the weapon went unheeded, McDaniels quickly reached for the firearm in his holster and shot the gunman.

Three posted double figures for the Morrisville State College women’s basketball team on Wednesday night, but couldn’t get past visiting Wells College as they fell 55-46 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) competition. With the loss, Morrisville State drops to 6-18 overall, 3-12 in conference play. Wells improves to 16-7, 11-3 in NEAC action.

The Morrisville State College western equestrian team completed the regular season Saturday, hosting two shows at the Swamp Road barn, and dominated the competition as they collected high point team honors in each show. Morrisville State collected 36 team points in the morning show behind a high point rider performance from Rianna Nalepa (Endicott, N.Y.), who took home the blue ribbon in the open reining class, and a third place finish in the open western horsemanship class.

Morrisville State recently recognized students who participated and achieved certification in the college's Emerging Leaders in Today's Environment Leadership (ELITE) Series program during the fall 2013 semester. The following students were named ELITE leaders:

A trio of seniors paced host Morrisville State College to a 83-65 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win over visiting Wells College Wednesday night, lifting the Mustangs to a 15-8 overall record, 11-5 in conference play. Center Tom Wilk (Cortland, N.Y.) led the Mustang charge with 19 points, adding five rebounds, while teammate Kucjok Ater (Syracuse, N.Y.) posted 14 points, adding a team high six rebounds and five assists to his tallies.

The Morrisville State College hunt seat team took to the arena Saturday at Skidmore College, and picked up where they left off at the semester break by collecting reserve high point team honors for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) competition held in Saratoga Springs.

A new acquisition is adding torque to Morrisville State's automotive technology—Ford ASSET program. A 2013 Ford Escape, donated by Ford Motor Company, recently joined the program's fleet of Ford-donated vehicles which are delivering top-notch training to auto students.

Morrisville State was honored with 2013 Tree Campus USA® recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to effective urban forest management.

Morrisville State professor Sheila Marshman will be the keynote speaker during the 2014 New Hampshire Women in Agriculture Conference at the New Hampshire Farm & Forest Expo Feb. 7-8 in Manchester, NH. Marshman, assistant professor of agricultural business, will discuss the role of women in agriculture and strategies for areas of risk management during her presentation titled, “One Million Strong and Growing.”

Morrisville State has been ranked, by U.S. News and World Report, second among regional colleges nationwide for outperforming its anticipated graduation metric.

The Morrisville State College athletic department has named Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) and Daniel Morello (Vaughan, ON) it’s Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 12.

Morrisville State College athletic director, Greg Carroll,  announced the addition of Lizabeth Aiello, to the department as an assistant athletic trainer and camp medical director. Aiello comes to Morrisville State from Buffalo State College where she served as a certified athletic trainer, providing training coverage for football, women’s soccer, volleyball, ice hockey and track and field.

Approximately 900 high school students from 18 schools will have the opportunity to showcase a multitude of skills and talents in the Region II BOCES Skills USA competition being hosted Feb. 13 at Morrisville State. The annual conference features high school students from technical schools and BOCES programs throughout Central New York competing in a variety of events.

Morrisville State's Financial Aid Office will host a SUNY Financial Aid Day information session on Saturday, Feb. 22. This free event, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Charlton Hall, Room 002, will offer assistance with questions regarding the financial aid process and completing the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

What do you get when teams of artists, hobbyists, programmers, designers and musicians throughout the world collaborate to create playable video games in the course of one weekend? An exciting event called the Global Game Jam (GGJ)—a chance to explore creativity, tout inventiveness and to let imaginations roam. Registration is under way now for the annual event and Morrisville State will again serve as a host site for this year's GGJ which will be held January 24-26.

Four Morrisville State students have been awarded Caterpillar/Milton CAT Scholarships by the Morrisville College Foundation. The $2,500 scholarships, awarded to students in the diesel technology programs, are based on academic achievement and financial need. Travelers in LaGuardia International Airport are getting a taste of the ingenuity of Morrisville State, and soon those at John F. Kennedy International Airport will too with the opening of “Taste NY” stores featuring products made by Nelson Farms and MSC students.

A variety of local goods are being touted at a new indoor farmers market at the Norwich Campus of Morrisville State.

Morrisville State is one of several schools to receive funding from the first-ever College Council Grant Program conducted by the New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse, and Recycling (NYSAR3).

Frederico Meira had something specific planned for his end-of-the-semester wood technology project at Morrisville State. The sleek grandfather clock he crafted in class would be a reflection of his treasured pastime—sailing.

Deep velvet red, bright red mixed with baby whites, white and peppermint—the Morrisville State College Horticulture Institute is selling its annual colorful crop of holiday poinsettias.

Morrisville State will host the second annual Commercial Hops Growers Conference on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 a.m. in the STUAC Theater and Crawford Hall, Room 107. The conference will feature various presentations, a beer pairing dinner on Friday night and a post-conference happy hour on Saturday evening and beer pairing dinner, both at the Colgate Inn.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making their annual arrival in the village of Morrisville on Dec. 6.   The free event, which will begin at 7 p.m. has been moved from Crouse Community Center to the MESC Elementary School. The college donated a 20-foot Black Spruce tree which was placed at Crouse Community Center this week.  

A saddle fitting workshop, with professional saddle maker Todd Bailey, will be held at Morrisville State on Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. The workshop, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the college's Equine Rehabilitation Center, located on Route 20 in Morrisville.
