With love and care, Jerome “Jay” Caretti tends to SUNY Morrisville’s portal to the stars. Painted silver and capped with a domed top resembling a silo, the Observatory stands atop a hill off Skyline Drive, on the east side of campus, overlooking Route 20. It is owned by the college and available to both students and the public.

Jeremy Dupuis ’16 has a knack for breaking things.

From her post as a waterfowl researcher at the Forbes Biological Station in Havana, Illinois, Cheyenne Beach ’16 sees the whole country. She can look east and recall her time as an AmeriCorps volunteer on Chincoteague Island off the coast of Virginia. She can look west to the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge along the Colorado River in Arizona, where she worked with endangered species in the fall of 2016.

As the temperature soared into the mid-90s during this year’s Great New York State Fair, patrons lined up in front of Gilligan’s Ice Cream stand. A large sign touting premium handcrafted hard ice cream enticed fairgoers as they wiped their brows with napkins and fanned themselves to the beat of music emanating from a nearby booth.

MORRISVILLE, NY—A beer produced by SUNY Morrisville agricultural business students is now on tap at the Copper Turret Restaurant & Brewhouse, in Morrisville, and three other student-made products are for sale at the Nelson Farms Country Store, on Route 20 in the Town of Nelson.  

MORRISVILLE, NY—SUNY Morrisville is selling a colorful array of poinsettias. The popular, decorative plants are on sale now through Dec. 7 at the Spader Horticulture Complex on the SUNY Morrisville campus, Monday through Friday, from noon to 4 p.m. The sale is open to the public.

WATERVILLE, NY— SUNY Morrisville student Kristin Dominic has an interest in building tiny homes. Reed Lucas wants to augment his nursery business, and Nick Geswaldo has a desire to learn more about hardscaping. They’re all getting a breadth of experience to help craft their careers through a Masonry & Foundations class taught by Michael Gridley, ’04, assistant professor of residential construction.   

MORRISVILLE, NY—Embracing change was a common theme among presenters during the inaugural Agricultural Summit held at SUNY Morrisville.  The event, which drew innovators and leaders from throughout the agriculture industry, focused on future goals and needs in agricultural education, as well as workforce development with both an academic and industry focus. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—SUNY Morrisville was formally awarded as the Grand National Champion of the 2018 U.S. Open College Beer Championship, as presented to the college that brews the best beers in North America.  The presentation was held at the Copper Turret Restaurant & Brewhouse, Morrisville’s student-teaching facility where the championship beers were brewed before the college was crowned as champions last May.

SHERBURNE, NY—Talon Abrams has been fascinated with amphibians and reptiles since he was 4 years old, catching snakes and frogs in a backyard creek at his Madison home. Some even made their way into his bedroom so he could examine them more closely in a glass bowl.  That allure eventually led him to SUNY Morrisville to pursue a bachelor’s degree in renewable resources technology. He wants to land in a career where he can help aquatic life, animals and the environment. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—SUNY Morrisville topped its Annual Yearling Sale with the highest horse and as the lead consignor.    The highly anticipated sale — the only one of its kind on a college campus in New York State — drew a crowd of potential buyers, sellers, trainers and owners from across the Northeast. All of the trotters and pacers sold are New York eligible.

MORRISVILLE, NY—A SUNY Morrisville professor is bringing his classroom to life. Assistant professor of biology Eric Diefenbacher from the SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus recently took two of his classes outdoors for “live-learning” sessions.

There’s a lot of science happening in a 125-gallon tank in the aquaculture lab at Morrisville State College. Eight adolescent seahorses - four males and four females - arrived in November and are making themselves at home in the six-foot-wide aquarium in Bicknell Hall.

Mollie Carter, ’14, remembers the first time she saw the steel sculpture of The Mustang, rearing back on its brick-and-mortar base in front of the Whipple Administration Building. “It was one of the first symbols that grabbed my eye when I started at MSC in August of 2010,” she said. The sculpture made the small-town girl feel “a little bit more like, ‘Hey, I can do this.’"

Energy, enthusiasm and a desire to learn and give back are well ingrained in Morrisville graduate Luke Martin. Since earning his bachelor’s degree in agricultural business development, Martin, 24, has been making his imprint with GROWMARK, Inc., a regional agricultural cooperative that operates in more than 40 states.

Morrisville freshman Jacob Ax has taken a chance meeting with a man injured in an accident and turned it into an opportunity to advocate for better accessibility in the farm workplace.
