MORRISVILLE, NY–Six Morrisville State College faculty/staff members were recently honored with Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence by the State University of New York and SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher. Recipients will be recognized during the college’s 106th commencement ceremony, which will be held May 6 at 1 p.m. in the recreation center. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Dr. Clare Armstrong-Seward of Smyrna has been named Morrisville State College’s Distinguished Faculty Award recipient.  The award is presented annually to a faculty member who displays professional growth, personal and professional achievement and has provided outstanding service to the college. She will be recognized during the college’s 106th commencement ceremony on May 6 at 1 p.m. in the recreation center. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—It was Morrisville State College student Austin Graham’s first time showing a lamb, but “Miss Izzy” made it look easy for her. “It’s pretty physical work showing a lamb, but working with her was the brightest part of my day,” said the 19-year-old agricultural business student from Laughton, Penn.

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College president Dr. David E. Rogers witnessed history Wednesday after attending Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s signing of the 2018 New York State budget, which included legislation enacting the groundbreaking Excelsior Scholarship. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Three Morrisville State College students recently served as government leaders and participated in legislative decision-making through their involvement in the Model New York State Senate Session Project, a dynamic leadership development program for students interested in public service. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College students Byron Evans, of Cazenovia, and Joseph Hulbert, of Duanesburg, have been honored with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.  The prestigious award is based on outstanding academic and career achievement, as well as service and leadership. It is the highest honor bestowed upon a student by SUNY. 

MORRISVILLE, NY— A business that raises animals and grows produce to help war veterans, a dairy farm with a creamery, and a virtual reality video game took top honors in the 2017 Cotton Business Idea Competition held at Morrisville State College. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College will host its fourth annual Milk Run on Friday, April 21, to benefit the experiential learning activities of the agricultural business and dairy science programs.  The family-friendly event is a five-kilometer (5K) run, walk or crawl open to all skill levels. The race begins at 6 p.m. in front of Marshall Hall, with race-day registration and packet pick-up open from 4:30-5:45 p.m. 

MORRISVILLE, NY — Morrisville State College University Police, the Student Government Organization and AT&T partner to educate students about the dangers of smartphone distracted driving.

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College is hosting a free workshop for those interested in learning about nutrient management in pastures.  The workshop, scheduled April 12 from 3-5 p.m. in Bicknell Hall, will address questions about managing soil fertility in the pasture and interpreting soil test reports as they relate to forage production. It will also cover soil phosphorus management and ideas for the next grazing season.

MORRISVILLE, NY—The Morrisville State College Theater Department and Student Government Organization will present the award-winning musical, “Avenue Q,” on March 24 and 25 at 8 p.m.; March 26 at 2 p.m.; and March 30, 31 and April 1 at 8 p.m. in the STUAC theatre.

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College will conduct an emergency drill on campus in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies on Tuesday, March 7 and Wednesday, March 8.  The two-day intensive training is a mock active-shooter exercise, an essential part of the college’s emergency preparedness efforts. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College professor and Hamilton resident Kerry Beadle has been honored with the Chef of the Year Award from the Syracuse Chapter of the American Culinary Federation (ACF).  “There are some incredible chefs with an unbelievable amount of talent and knowledge in our chapter,” Beadle said. “This group of professionals compels me to continually push myself. To have them recognize me as one of them is a fantastic honor.” 

MORRISVILLE, NY— It was a chance for nine Morrisville State College students to check out the actual operations of a major hotel corporation.  John Felton took his Hotel Operations class away from their books to hold class at the Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton in Cazenovia for part of the semester. The trip was an educational capstone for his students who are aiming at careers in the hospitality industry. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College has been honored again for its commitment to sustainability. The college received 2016 Tree Campus USA® recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for its dedication to effective urban forest management. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College students will join the local community to celebrate the 11th annual Winter Fest on Saturday, Feb. 25.  Winter Fest, an event that brings the college together with members from the local community, offers a variety of activities. Free and open to the public, this year’s event will be held from 2-7 p.m. at the Morrisville-Eaton Elementary School located on Eaton Street.  

MORRISVILLE, NY—Nearly 900 students from 18 different high schools will gather on the Morrisville State College campus as they showcase a variety of talents during the SkillsUSA Area II Regional Conference on Friday, Feb. 10.   

MORRISVILLE, NY—Several key areas in which Morrisville State College has contributed to New York State’s economic progress made the list of highlights Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo noted Wednesday during his fifth stop on a regional State of the State tour, this time stopping in Syracuse. MSC President David E. Rogers attended the event, along with other key college senior leaders, a group of MSC students and some College Council members among the honored guests.

MORRISVILLE, NY— Morrisville State College is among a handful of locations in New York State serving as a jam site for the 2017 Global Game Jam ™ (GGJ), the world’s largest game creation event, taking place Jan. 20-22.  GGJ is a fast-paced, 48-hour digital “jam session” which gives teams of artists, hobbyists, programmers and gamers throughout the world a chance to brainstorm, innovate, collaborate and develop new ideas for game design.

MORRISVILLE, NY—David E. Rogers, president of Morrisville State College, issued the following statement Tuesday after an announcement by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to offer free tuition at state colleges to any student or student whose family earns less than $125,000 annually. “Gov. Cuomo’s proposed Excelsior Scholarship Program will foster increased investment in the very knowledge and skills required to support New York’s dynamic and evolving economy.”

The 2017 Cotton Business Idea Competition is giving Morrisville State College students a chance to take their idea to the next level—and earn some cash.  Business ideas should address several questions: Does it solve a problem? Who will use the product or service? What is the benefit of the product or service? How do you plan to make money or fund the idea?

MORRISVILLE, NY—Two new products will be hitting the shelves at Nelson Farms Country Store—the work of Morrisville State College students. New are a spice mix and a lemon-pepper marinade. Students created the products from scratch in MSC Professor Sheila Marshman’s Marketing and Distribution of Agricultural Products class. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College is selling a festive array of poinsettias. The colorful plants, a popular decoration throughout the holidays, are on sale now through Friday, Dec. 9, at the Spader Horticulture Complex on the Morrisville State College campus, Monday through Friday, from noon to 4 p.m. The sale is open to the public.
