Morrisville State has been ranked, by U.S. News and World Report, second among regional colleges nationwide for outperforming its anticipated graduation metric.

The Morrisville State College athletic department has named Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) and Daniel Morello (Vaughan, ON) it’s Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 12.

Morrisville State College athletic director, Greg Carroll,  announced the addition of Lizabeth Aiello, to the department as an assistant athletic trainer and camp medical director. Aiello comes to Morrisville State from Buffalo State College where she served as a certified athletic trainer, providing training coverage for football, women’s soccer, volleyball, ice hockey and track and field.

Approximately 900 high school students from 18 schools will have the opportunity to showcase a multitude of skills and talents in the Region II BOCES Skills USA competition being hosted Feb. 13 at Morrisville State. The annual conference features high school students from technical schools and BOCES programs throughout Central New York competing in a variety of events.

Cutting Edge Sports Management, host of the 2014 Dream Bowl, has announced the addition of a trio of Morrisville State football players to its roster for the second annual game to be played Monday, January 20 in Virginia Beach. Seniors Nate Ryan (Staten Island, N.Y.), Jeremy Stewart (Moravia, N.Y.) and David Williams (Central Islip, N.Y.) will represent Morrisville State on the squad.

Morrisville State's Financial Aid Office will host a SUNY Financial Aid Day information session on Saturday, Feb. 22. This free event, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Charlton Hall, Room 002, will offer assistance with questions regarding the financial aid process and completing the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Host Morrisville State College men’s basketball was able to overcome a 14-point second half deficit Tuesday afternoon, edging visiting SUNY IT 88-86 in the closing minute for the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory in Morrisville. Morrisville State improves to 6-5 overall with the win, a 3-2 conference record, while the visitors drop just their third of the year, falling to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in NEAC play.

The Morrisville State College women’s basketball team put together a hard fought battle Tuesday afternoon, but dropped the 77-49 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) decision to visiting SUNYIT in Morrisville. With the loss, Morrisville State drops to 4-8 overall, 2-3 in conference play, while the visitors improve to 7-4 overall and remain untouched in NEAC action at 4-0.

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its student-athlete of the week selections, naming Morrisville State College freshman guard, Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) the women’s basketball co-player of the week for the week ending Jan. 12.

Visiting Morrisville State College men’s hockey picked up a 6-4 non-conference win over host Becker College Sunday afternoon, improving their overall record to 4-9-1. Ten different Mustangs tallied points in the contest, including Daniel Morello (Vaughan, ON) and Marc-Antoine Chaput (Mascouche, QC) who each posted three assists on the day.

Freshman forward Caitlyn Adams (Sherburne, N.Y.) posted a collegiate high 22 points, and added 13 rebounds for her first double-double, leading Morrisville State College women’s basketball to a 63-40 win over host Wilson College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Saturday afternoon in Chambersburg. The victory is the second straight for the Mustangs, who improve to 4-7 overall and pull even at 2-2 in NEAC action.

Host Nichols College scored five first period goals and added three more in the final stanza to top visiting Morrisville State College hockey by a 9-4 non-conference decision Saturday night in Rhode Island. The loss is the second straight for the Mustangs, who fall to 3-9-1 on the season.

In a year that has seen several student-athletes post record breaking performances, another was added to the record books Wednesday night, as men’s basketball senior guard and captain Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y. /  Henninger) notched his 1,000th career point on the road at Alfred State College.

What do you get when teams of artists, hobbyists, programmers, designers and musicians throughout the world collaborate to create playable video games in the course of one weekend? An exciting event called the Global Game Jam (GGJ)—a chance to explore creativity, tout inventiveness and to let imaginations roam. Registration is under way now for the annual event and Morrisville State will again serve as a host site for this year's GGJ which will be held January 24-26.

The Morrisville State women’s basketball team got off to a rocky start Tuesday night, and could not recover, as they dropped a 59-36 non-conference contest to host Bard College. The loss drops the Mustangs to 2-7 overall, as they look to rebound from the loss Thursday, hosting Penn College of Technology.

The Morrisville State College men’s ice hockey team resumed play Saturday afternoon at the University of New England, and dropped the non-conference tilt 5-4 in overtime. The loss drops the Mustangs to 3-8-1 overall. John Doyle (New Lowell, ON) scored twice to lead the Morrisville State efforts, while teammate Ryan Marcuz (Richmond Hill, ON) added a goal and an assist. Jordan Carvalho (Brampton, ON) posted the other Mustang tally on the day.

Four Morrisville State students have been awarded Caterpillar/Milton CAT Scholarships by the Morrisville College Foundation. The $2,500 scholarships, awarded to students in the diesel technology programs, are based on academic achievement and financial need. Receiving scholarships were the following diesel equipment technology students: Jacob Drabolt, of Central Square, NY Patrick Nash, of Liverpool, NY

Travelers in LaGuardia International Airport are getting a taste of the ingenuity of Morrisville State, and soon those at John F. Kennedy International Airport will too with the opening of “Taste NY” stores featuring products made by Nelson Farms and MSC students.

A variety of local goods are being touted at a new indoor farmers market at the Norwich Campus of Morrisville State.

Morrisville State is one of several schools to receive funding from the first-ever College Council Grant Program conducted by the New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse, and Recycling (NYSAR3).

Frederico Meira had something specific planned for his end-of-the-semester wood technology project at Morrisville State. The sleek grandfather clock he crafted in class would be a reflection of his treasured pastime—sailing.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making their annual arrival in the village of Morrisville on Dec. 6.   The free event, which will begin at 7 p.m. has been moved from Crouse Community Center to the MESC Elementary School. The college donated a 20-foot Black Spruce tree which was placed at Crouse Community Center this week.  

Morrisville State will host the second annual Commercial Hops Growers Conference on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 a.m. in the STUAC Theater and Crawford Hall, Room 107. The conference will feature various presentations, a beer pairing dinner on Friday night and a post-conference happy hour on Saturday evening and beer pairing dinner, both at the Colgate Inn.

A saddle fitting workshop, with professional saddle maker Todd Bailey, will be held at Morrisville State on Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. The workshop, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the college's Equine Rehabilitation Center, located on Route 20 in Morrisville.
