Five Morrisville State College faculty/staff members were recently honored by the State University of New York and SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher. Receiving the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching are: Dr. Kurt Reymers, of Poolville Dr. Clare Armstrong-Seward, of Smyrna 

Gilroy Alvarez's dorm room is decorated with some of his most-prized possessions. There's a championship soccer medallion hanging in a window, a poster of Jesus Christ, a Morrisville sweatshirt, award and leadership certificates, a soccer ball, and a majestic sky blue and white-trimmed flag representing his Guatemalan heritage. Soon he will add college diploma to his treasures.

Morrisville State College faculty member Lisa Rusch, of Hamilton, has received the Morrisville State College Distinguished Faculty Award. The award is presented annually to a faculty member who displays professional growth, personal and professional achievement, and has provided outstanding service to the college. She will be recognized during the college's 102nd commencement ceremony on May 18 at 1 p.m. in the recreation center.

A team of Morrisville State College students took second place in the prestigious Bistro Challenge at the International Food Service Executives Association (IFSEA) Conference 2013 held in Dallas, Texas April 11-14.

Two teams of entrepreneurs from Morrisville State College won top spots in the Mohawk Valley Qualifier of the New York State Business Plan Competition held recently at SUNYIT. The wins advanced the teams, AutoPrice Negotiators LLC, and Miracles on Lice, to the 2013 New York Business Plan Competition (NYBPC), which will be held at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering in Albany on April 26.

Ginger and Sean MacRae had their eyes focused intently on Grace, a four-year-old mare whose name complemented her docile demeanor and elegance in the show ring. “We really like her temperament,” said Ginger MacRae about the poised horse up for auction during Morrisville State College's first western sale held April 13 at the Nancy Sears Stowell Arena.

A team of Morrisville State College students brought home a fourth-place finish from the 12th Annual North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge (NAIDC) held in Fort Wayne, Ind. April 4-6. Three Morrisville State College students also participated in the Dairy Academy, which was held in conjunction with the dairy challenge competition.

Looking for a fun activity to do with the whole family? The public is invited to participate in “Don't be a Spectator. Be a Sport,” a family fun night on May 2, from 6-8 p.m. in the recreation center at Morrisville State College in honor of Screen-Free Week. Screen-Free Week is an annual event in which parents, children, teachers, and others across the nation turn off screen media (TV, video games, computers, cell phones) and celebrate the magic of being unplugged.

A Morrisville State College professor is among those who was recognized during the Alltech North American Lecture Tour. Dr. Clyde Cranwell, of Morrisville, NY, assistant professor and director of Morrisville State College's thoroughbred racing program, received an agriculture educator award from Alltech during a symposium held in Syracuse, one of 23 stops in the Alltech North American Lecture Tour.

Students at Morrisville State College are rolling up their sleeves to help out on campus and in the community during a month of service which is already in progress. During the “April Month of Service,” students are performing tasks and services needed by residents in neighboring areas. Events will also roll over into May.

Morrisville State College will host Ag Day on April 18. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Most events will be held in the academic quad (in front of Marshall Hall). Participants can learn more about agriculture, see horses, dairy cows, sheep and goats, take a hay ride around campus, and sample Morrisville State College's homemade ice cream during the annual event. There will also be face painting.

State Sen. David J. Valesky will address Morrisville State College students during the college's 102nd commencement ceremony May 18 at 1 p.m. in the recreation center. Valesky, who represents the 53rd Senate District, comprised of Madison County and parts of Oneida and Onondaga counties, was elected to the New York State Senate in November 2004.

Morrisville State College will hold its first ever western horse sale on April 13 at the Nancy Sears Stowell Arena on Swamp Road. A preview/demonstration of sale horses begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the sale at 1 p.m. So far, approximately 20 reining, pleasure and hunter prospects are up for auction, including top consignments from the college's own western breaking and training program.

Horse manure is gaining attention on the Morrisville State College campus—and it's not for its common use as a fertilizer. The stable waste is instead being considered as a source of energy.

Four students from the accredited dietetic technician program at Morrisville State College recently reached outside of their classroom to help veterans at Clear Path for Veterans in Chittenango. The students volunteered their time and expertise, providing helpful nutritional information to 11 soldiers from Fort Drum experiencing low-level TBIs (traumatic brain injuries) who will be entering into civilian life within the next year.

Morrisville State College will be hosting more than 30 employers at the 2013 Job and Internship Expo for students and alumni on March 28, from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., in Madison Hall. During the expo, employers representing a broad range of industries will be available to answer questions about their companies, hiring practices, and current and potential part- and full-time positions, internships and volunteer opportunities. The event is free.

Barbara Roback, of Hamilton, NY, has joined Morrisville State College as the career planning and development officer.

Morrisville State College will be exhibiting the work of painter Lynette K. Stephenson in the Butcher Library Gallery. The exhibition titled, The Red Cross Series, will be available for public viewing until April 7. Inspired by uncontrollable tragedies that are aspects of the uncertainty of life, Stephenson's paintings, most of which originated from her imagination, are mixed with photographs and old first aid manuals.

There wasn’t much doubt in Paige Jerrett’s mind what she wanted to do when she grew up. The shiny western belt buckle, cowboy hats and hours she and her father spent watching rodeos painted the picture. “I remember sitting on the couch while my father French-braided my hair and we would spend the afternoon watching rodeos,” Jerrett said.

The Morrisville State College Theatre Department and Student Government Organization (SGO) will present the musical, Grease, in the Little Theatre of the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities (STUAC) on the Morrisville State College campus. Show times are: March 15-17, and 21-23 at 8 p.m. A matinee performance will be held March 17 at 2 p.m.

Morrisville State College is offering two new bachelor’s degrees in videojournalism and applied psychology.   The new Bachelor of Science degrees augment the college’s lineup of four-year offerings which also include Bachelor of Technology and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees. The videojournalism degree prepares students for careers in contemporary media with a mix of hands-on classroom and field experience.  

Some would have considered the 1925 Fordson F tractor only for its scrap metal value.  But when Charles “Chip” Ax III, took a look at the vintage farm tractor—he saw an opportunity. 

Morrisville State College will host prospective students and their families during an open house on Saturday, April 13 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The college will offer a variety of activities designed to introduce students to Morrisville State College and assist them with their college search process.

The Morrisville Auxiliary Corporation (MAC) of Morrisville State College is hosting a day of events Jan. 26 in celebration of national skating month—January 2013. The events, which are free and open to the public, take place from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the college's IcePlex and include hockey games, speed skating races, skating relays, synchronized, ice dance and singles figure skating exhibitions, and more.
