Victoria bids our viewers goodbye as she closes out the BHM 2022 series. Additionally, she introduces Black Women's History, a program that will feature the history of Black Women in March 2022.

SGO is sponsoring a Black History Month Blackout; to honor all the Black heroes, activists and leaders in US history.  Students will wear all black in solidarity.  

In preparation for our March Black Women's History program, John Bowen, MD, will present on the lives of Anarcha, Betsy, and Lucy who were enslaved women whose bodies were experimented upon without their consent. The experiments conducted on them would lay the foundation for the modern field of gynecology.

Morrisville Esports invites players to compete in the NBA 2K22 tournament.  Mode of Play: Playstation 4, 1v1 Double Elimination Brackets $5 Entry Fee due at the Door: All Proceeds go to St. Jude's  $150 for First Prize When: Schedule Change Due to Inclement Weather: First Round Saturday 2/26 at 2pm. Another time will be scheduled to finish the tournament if needed. Where: Charlton Hall 133 and 125

In this presentation, Ellie Citron will provide a brief history of how Black women, enslaved or free after the Civil War, have historically been discriminated against in medical practice. She will focus her case study in Virginia as an illustrative example of the kinds of discrimination Black women have faced at the hands of medical practitioners.

Pick up your application outside the SGO Office.  Applicants must have at least a 2.35 cumulative GPA and be in good disciplinary standing.

In her book, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zora Neale Hurston describes the plight of her fellow Black women by saying that they are "the mules of the world". This visceral image brings to mind the double oppression Black women faced and continue to face today. Joanna Jimenez will present on the intersectionality of race and gender by speaking about the double challenge Black women face in a society that disadvantages them because they are women and because they are Black.

James Stewart, a white historian who writes, lectures and produces videos addressing the history of American white supremacy will speak about his collaboration with Black artist and illustrator Donald Walker. Walker counts among his patrons Oprah Winfrey, the late Johnny Cochran, Coretta Scott King, and several NBA basketball stars. Together, their collaboration has produced antiracism activism that links white suburbanites with Black urban dwellers.
