Visiting Oswego State won six of 10 matches Wednesday night at Morrisville State College, picking up the 24-15 dual win in Morrisville. Michael Gentilcore (Rochester, NY) posted a major decision victory at 125 pounds, defeating Morrisville State's Justin Delamothe (Cross River, NY) 10-0 to give Oswego the early 4-0 match lead.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its Players of the Week for the week ending January 30, naming Morrisville State College freshman Taylor Vince (Barrie, ONT) the Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week. Vince, defenseman for the Mustangs, tallied two goals and two assists for Morrisville State in an 8-6 conference win over Brockport on Friday. Currently ranked eighth in the conference in defensemen scoring, Vince has tallied five goals and seven assists for 12 team points.
Junior Justin Delamothe (Cross River, NY) posted a 2-2 record to lead Morrisville State College wrestling at the Wheaton Invitational over the course of the weekend in Illinois. Wrestling at 125 pounds, Delamothe posted his first win of the tournament in the first round, pinning his Mount St. Joseph opponent in 1:38. After suffering a major decision defeat, Delamothe rebounded with an 11-9 decision over Ohio Northern's Jerry Pasquale, before falling the following round of wrestlebacks.
Morrisville State College senior forward Bryan Eddy (White Plains, NY) recorded 16 points and 14 rebounds as the visiting Mustangs topped host SUNY Canton 84-59 Tuesday night in Potsdam. Morrisville State opened the contest with an 11-3 run over the first six minutes of the game and led by as many as 15 in the first twenty, en route to a 38-27 lead at the break. In the second, the Mustangs increased their lead to 25, shooting 57 percent from the floor for the non-conference win.
Senior forward Easter Faafiti (Pittsburg, CA) posted 30 points and grabbed 24 rebounds to lead visiting #20 nationally ranked Gallaudet University to a 64-57 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over host Morrisville State College Sunday afternoon. Morrisville State pulled to within eight with six minutes remaining in the contest, but Faafiti added nine additional points down the stretch to secure the win for the Bisons, who remain undefeated at 18-0.
Visiting Gallaudet University men's basketball posted a 85-77 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over host Morrisville State College Sunday afternoon in Morrisville. Morrisville State pulled to within four with less than a minute remaining in the contest, but Gallaudet remained perfect on the day from the charity stripe, hitting six of a game total 22 in the closing seconds to secure the win.
Visiting Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball hit six three's and forced 13 Mustang turnovers in the first half en route to a 74-59 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest Saturday afternoon in Morrisville. Morrisville State shot just 20.7 percent from the floor in the first half while Harrisburg raced out to a 44-24 lead at the break. In the second half, the Mustangs attempted a comeback attempt, but fell short as the Nittany Lions collected the win.
The Morrisville State College men's basketball team posted their second straight conference victory Saturday afternoon, fueled by a collegiate best performance by freshman Kucjok Ater (Syracuse, NY) as the Mustangs topped visiting Penn State Harrisburg 94-80 in Morrisville. The win boosts the Mustangs to 6-10 overall, 5-6 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. Penn State Harrisburg drops to 9-9 overall, 9-3 in conference play.
Host SUNY Geneseo tallied three first period goals and added another in the second to hand visiting Morrisville State College ice hockey a 4-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) loss Saturday afternoon in Geneseo. The Ice Knights stunned Morrisville State with their first score of the evening, as Carson Schell put one past Mustang netminder Caylin Relkoff (Grand Forks, BC) just 1:49 into the contest.
Tim Wierman, a nationally renowned speaker on the topic of sports nutrition, will be speaking at Morrisville State College tonight at 7 p.m. in the Student Activities Center Theatre. Wierman will address topics related to sports nutrition including fuel for the athlete, pre-competition meal planning, recovery foods, and fluid replacements for the athlete.
