The Morrisville State College athletic department has named Regina Laws (Uniondale, NY) and Justin Delamothe (Cross River, NY) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 31. Laws, senior runner on the women's cross country team, ran a team best 22:19 at the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championships on Saturday, posting a 10th place individual finish in the 5K race, leading the women's team to a fourth overall finish.
The Morrisville State College field hockey team fell to Nazareth College to bring their season to an end tonight in Morrisville. Before the start of the game, the four seniors were honored for their dedication to the sport. Molly Luzak (Burt, NY), Jennifer May (Rochester, NY), Lauren Bordonaro (North Tonawanda, NY), and Rian Tanski (Elma, NY) were the four seniors honored before the start of the game.
Fourth seed Keuka College scored the game winner just 3:06 into the overtime period to hand visiting and fifth seed Morrisville State College the heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss in the quarterfinal round of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men's soccer tournament Tuesday night in Keuka Park. Erik Whitcombe (Ogdensburg, NY) broke the scoreless tie in the 70th minute to give the Mustangs the one goal advantage, but a costly foul in the box led to a converted Keuka penalty kick to knot the game at one.
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its 2010 men's soccer championship bracket today, ranking Morrisville State College as its fifth seed. The Mustangs will face familiar foe, fourth seed Keuka College, Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. in Keuka. Morrisville State will seek revenge on the Storm, who claimed the 1-0 overtime victory in the regular season finale for the Mustangs on October 26. The winner of the match-up will advance to the conference semi-finals against top seed and tournament host SUNY IT on Saturday.
The Morrisville State College hunt seat equestrian repeated reserve championship team honors Saturday, recording 38 team points at the Hartwick IHSA Show in Oneonta. Three riders qualified for the regional championships at the end of the season, Emma Monte (East Rochester, NY) in the intermediate equitation on the flat after placing third; Jill Featherly (Hilton, NY) in the novice equitation over fences after a blue ribbon on Saturday; and Kathryn Galyon (Pearl River, NY) in the advanced walk trot canter class after a second place finish.
Morrisville State College wrestling opened the 2010-11 season with a win over Penn State-Dubois, but fell in three straight matches to post a 1-3 record at the Electric City Duals held at the University of Scranton Saturday.
Morrisville State College had three place in the top 20 at the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championships as the men's team claimed the third overall team finish Saturday afternoon at Penn State Berks in Reading, Pennsylvania. The women's team finished fourth overall behind two top 20 finishes.
Lauren Bordonaro (North Tonawanda, NY) scored a hat trick to lead the Mustangs, but Morrisville State College fell 4-3 to visiting Houghton College Saturday afternoon in Morrisville. The Highlanders' took the lead 15 minutes into the game, after Rachel Stefanski (Wallingford, CT) scored an unassisted goal into the open net. With four minutes remaining in the half, Jennifer Huyett (Stevens, PA) added another unassisted Highlanders' goal to make it 2-0.
The Morrisville State College women's soccer team closed out the 2010 season with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to host Alfred University Saturday afternoon in Alfred. Alfred took a one goal lead 12 minutes into the contest, and nine minutes later Beth Fisher (Bolton Landing, NY) responded for the Mustangs to even the contest at one midway through the half. In the 30th minute, Alfred regained the lead and maintained the advantage until the 63rd minute when Fisher found Kara Collins (New Berlin, NY) for the equalizer.
Visiting Morrisville State College took an early lead over host Rowan College, but couldn't hold on as the Profs recorded the 34-21 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) victory Saturday afternoon in Glassboro. The loss drops the Mustangs to 1-7 overall, 1-6 in conference action while Rowan improves to 7-1 overall, 6-1 in the NJAC.
