The Morrisville State College athletic department has named western's Tawnee Collins (Evans Mills, NY) and ice hockey's Caylin Relkoff (Grand Forks, BC) its athletes of the week for the week ending November 7. Collins, freshman rider, earned a first place finish in the novice western horsemanship class in both shows for the western equestrian team on Saturday, recording seven points in the team's double win. The equine science and management major is a graduate of Indian River High.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) recently announced its 2010 Field Hockey All-Conference selections, naming Morrisville State College senior forward, Lauren Bordonaro (North Tonawanda, NY) and sophomore goalkeeper, Kelsey Pellegrino (Cicero, NY) to its first and second team, respectively.
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) released its 2010 Men's Soccer All-Conference teams, naming three Morrisville State College student-athletes to its first and third teams. Senior forward Andrew Brobbey (Bronx, NY) garnered first team honors following his performance on the field this season. Brobbey led the Mustangs in scoring, putting 12 in the back of the net and assisted another for 25 points this season. Midway through the year he posted a collegiate best three goals against Gallaudet, and tallied two game winners.
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its 2010 Women's Volleyball All-Conference teams over the weekend, naming Morrisville State College's Nicole Wright (Dryden, NY) and Deanna Zbikowski (North Syracuse, NY) to its first and second team, respectively.
Morrisville State College had five earn North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Cross Country All-Conference honors following their performance at the conference championships. Sophomore Austin Townsley (Horseheads, NY) led the Mustangs with a sixth place individual finish, earning first team honors, while freshman Ben Sargrad (Manlius, NY) crossed in 13th position and senior Tim Austen (Clifton Park, NY) followed in 17th position, earning second and third team honors, respectively.
Morrisville State College senior netminder, Caylin Relkoff (Grand Forks, BC), has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Goalie of the Week for the week ending November 7. Relkoff collected 79 saves and a .952 save percentage in two conference wins for the Mustangs over the weekend, as Morrisville State defeated Brockport and Geneseo.
Morrisville State College posted 36.5 team points at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational over the weekend, placing ninth, in Ithaca. Ithaca won the invitational with 191 points, followed by Centenary with 175.5 and Cortland with 156.5. Johnson and Wales followed with 110 points, Springfield with 104, Oswego 103.5, Stevens 67, New York University 50, Morrisville 36.5, Western New England 35, and Norwich 32. Justin Delamothe (Cross River, NY) posted a 2-2 record at 125 pounds for Morrisville State, recording an opening round pin in 5:27.
The Morrisville State College western equestrian team posted 35 points in the morning and 32 in the afternoon to top the competition for high point team honors in the first two shows of the season Saturday at the riding arena in Morrisville. Catherine Howland (Rutlandtown, VT) earned blue ribbons in the reining and open western horsemanship classes to earn high point rider honors for both shows.
Nick Kulas (Parma, MI) scored with 4:05 to go in the final period to give the Morrisville State College Mustangs the 3-2 upset victory over State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent SUNY Geneseo Saturday night in Morrisville. Taylor Vince (Barrie, ONT) broke the scoreless tie 18:00 into the second period for Morrisville State, netting the goal immediately off the face-off win by Curtis Renaud (Carlisle, ONT).
Morrisville State College men's ice hockey posted a decisive 8-2 victory over rival SUNY Brockport for its first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win of the 2010-11 season Friday night in Morrisville. Playing to a scoreless first period, Morrisville State's Dave Shultz (Trucksville, PA) posted the first Mustang goal just 5:06 into the second off a breakaway on a mishandle of the puck by the Brockport defense. The Golden Eagles evened the score nearly two minutes later on a feed in front of the net to Dan Galiani at 6:45.
