Morrisville State College athletic director, Greg Carroll, has named Kevin Krogol the interim head coach of the men’s ice hockey program for the 2012-2013 season.

Senior forward Ashley Engle (Manheim, PA) posted a hat trick, netting three scores to lead the visiting Houghton College Highlanders to a 5-1 non-conference victory over Morrisville State Thursday afternoon in Morrisville. The Mustangs drop to 2-14 on the season, while Houghton improves to 7-5.

Visiting Utica College volleyball opened match action on a fast pace Wednesday night, topping host Morrisville State College 3-1 in non-conference action in Morrisville with set scores of 25-12, 25-18, 21-25, and 25-20. Morrisville State dropped to 5-14 overall while the Pioneers improved to 7-18.

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) office has announced its weekly award winners, naming Morrisville State College’s Sanley Pierre-Louis (Gaithersburg, Md.) the Men’s Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week.

The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) has announced the players of the week for the week ending October 13, naming Morrisville State College freshman quarterback Jory Tanner (Adams, N.Y.) the Offensive Rookie of the Week.

The Morrisville State College women’s soccer team scored first on Sunday, as they faced conference opponent Penn State Harrisburg, but the Nittany Lions proved to be too much as they defeated the Mustangs 8-1 in Middletown, P.A.

Katie Flaschner (East Amherst, NY/The Nichols School) scored one goal and set up three others as the University of Rochester defeated Morrisville State, 8-1, in field hockey at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

The Morrisville State College athletics department has named freshman Kylie Murphy (Nichols, N.Y.) and sophomore Gilroy Alvarez (Guatemala) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 7. Murphy, freshman outside hitter for the women’s volleyball team, completed the week with 30 kills, 10 service aces and 57 defensive digs to lead the Mustangs.

Morrisville State College head ice hockey coach, Brian Grady, has announced his resignation after five seasons at the helm of the program. Under direction of Grady, the Mustangs posted an overall record of 35-88-3, as he guided the program to the State University of New York Athletic Conference play-offs twice.

The Morrisville State College men’s soccer program together with the campus and community, raised more than $2,400 for the Italian American Coalition for Kids (IACK), a not-for-profit organization that assists families in need in the Upstate New York region.

Penn State Abington scored just 3:34 into the match, as Kaitlin Kozole scorched a shot past Mustangs goalkeeper Jennifer Zidzik from the top of the 18 yard box. Alyssa Kaye scored next for Abington off of a Brittany Palmer corner kick at 26:45, giving the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

The Mustangs improve to 9-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the conference as the Nittany Lions fall to 8-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play.

Penn State Berks scored a goal in each half to secure a 2-0 victory over host Morrisville State in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) women’s soccer action Saturday afternoon in Morrisville. After playing a scoreless first 30 minutes, Meaghan Daly put the Nittany Lions on the board at 30:33. Emma Babp scored the second Berks goal at 75:20, locking up the 2-0 victory for the 9-2 Nittany Lions. Chelsea Ray was credited with both assists.

Visiting SUNY Cortland field hockey team cruised to a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory Saturday morning, topping host Morrisville State College 7-0 in Morrisville. Morrisville State drops to 2-12 overall, 0-5 in conference play, while Cortland improves to 6-4 overall, 3-1 in SUNYAC action. Erin Smith and Sara Woodward each notched two goals apiece to lead Cortland in the win, as three additional teammates tallied scores.

The Morrisville State men’s soccer team defeated the visiting Penn State Berks Nittany Lions 3-0 Saturday afternoon in their first annual IACKids game. On top of earning the win, the Mustangs also raised money and awareness for the Italian American Coalition for Kids (IACKids) not-for-profit organization.

In the second of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) cross over tournaments, Morrisville State fell to SUNY Cobleskill and Keuka College by match scores of 3-1 and 3-0, respectively. The losses drop the Mustangs to 3-12 overall, 1-5 in conference action.
