MORRISVILLE, NY—As Morrisville State College gears up to celebrate National Arbor Day on April 29, the college has been honored again for its trees. The college received 2015 Tree Campus USA® recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to effective urban forest management. 

MORRISVILLE, NY— Four days a week, Morrisville State College student Emily French augments her studies with a different kind of learning. Firing up a chainsaw, she cuts three cross-cut sections off of a log in the shortest amount of time.  Cutting through the five-inch piece of wood takes skill, precision and speed, which the Westport resident is honing as a member of the college’s wood sports team. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College will host the Mohawk Regional Dietetic Association spring meeting on April 15 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The meeting, titled “Rural Nutrition: Challenges and Strategies,” will include a keynote address by Rachel Kramer and Karen Romano of HealtheConnections, along with presentations from several area nutrition and healthcare experts. There will also be a panel discussion.

MORRISVILLE, NY— Prospective students from all over the northeast will descend on the Morrisville State College campus for an open house on April 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to see everything MSC has to offer, from our competitive NCAA Division III athletics to our state-of-the-art, hands-on learning facilities. 

MORRISVILLE, NY — Three Morrisville State College students recently participated in the New York State Model Senate Session Project, a dynamic leadership program for students interested in public service. 

MORRISVILLE, NY— The Morrisville State College University Police Department, in conjunction with the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, is holding a citizen preparedness seminar on April 27 from 6-8 p.m. in the Student Activities Center Little Theatre. The free training, which is open to the public, will focus on preparing for severe weather and man-made disaster events.

MORRISVILLE, NY— Morrisville State College has added former World Champion Third Straight p, 3, 1:53.3s, 3, 1:50.1f ($321,662) to its stallion roster. Third Straight is in the top 10 in Leading Sires Average Earnings per foal for 2015; among two-year olds he is 6th, and three-year olds he is 10th.

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College adjunct instructor Rachelann Lopp Copland, of Cazenovia, has been selected as a panelist for the American Comparative Literature Association’s (ACLA) Annual Conference at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., March 17-20. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—The Morrisville State College Theater Department and Student Government Organization (SGO) will present Richard O’Brien’s “The Rocky Horror Show” in the Little Theatre of the Student Activities Building on March 24, 25 and 26 at 8 p.m., April 1 and 2 at 8 p.m., and April 3 at 2 p.m.

MORRISVILLE, NY— In celebration of National Developmental Disabilities Awareness month, Morrisville State College and The Arc of Madison Cortland are collaborating on an exhibit, “Through Our Eyes,” which is on display now through March 31 in the college’s Donald Butcher Library.

MORRISVILLE, NY—It was a chance for Rebecca Shoemaker to tout her skills as a mason in the making.  Concentration filled the 17-year-old’s face as she built a brick wall during the Region II BOCES Skills USA competition held recently at Morrisville State College. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—A class project turned into an entrepreneurial venture for two Morrisville State College automotive technology students.  Greg Stallone, of Long Island, and Tyler Moravcik, of Nineveh, put a savvy spin on an assignment in automotive Professor Ron Alexander’s Advanced Powertrain Management class, which required them to disassemble and reassemble a transmission. 

MORRISVILLE, NY— More than 700 high school students from 17 schools will converge on the Morrisville State College campus as they showcase a multitude of skills and talents in the Region II BOCES Skills USA competition on Feb. 26.  The annual conference features high school students from technical schools and BOCES programs throughout Central New York competing in a variety of events. 

MORRISVILLE, NY— Morrisville State College University Police Lt. Conor Duffy attended the Fair and Impartial Policing training program in Syracuse.  The Fair and Impartial Policing training is designed to help officers identify bias or impartial policing and how it can impact policing as a whole. The training certifies Duffy, along with 24 other SUNY officers, to provide training to his on-campus colleagues, and throughout the region. 

MORRISVILLE, NY— Morrisville State College University Police recently hosted a series of trainings for law enforcement agencies in Madison County on the college campus.  Partnering with the Madison County District Attorney’s Office and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office/STOP DWI program, they offered the following training:

MORRISVILLE, NY— Morrisville State College will hold an open house on Friday, Feb. 19.  The open house gives prospective students the opportunity to visit the Morrisville campus and interact with current college students and employees.  The event kicks off at 10 a.m. with a welcome ceremony in the student activities center (STUAC). There will also be academic presentations and facility tours at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

MORRISVILLE, NY— Lisa Iannello, of New Berlin, has been named Morrisville State College’s executive director of advancement and executive director of the Morrisville College Foundation. In this role, Iannello will lead the institutional advancement office in fundraising and scholarship efforts, and also oversee alumni affairs and the foundation board. 

MORRISVILLE, NY— Morrisville State College will once again serve as a host site for teams of artists, hobbyists, programmers, designers and musicians during the popular Global Game Jam ™ (GGJ) which will be held Jan. 29-31.

MORRISVILLE, NY— Morrisville State College President David Rogers will be speaking about entrepreneurship during a “How to Think Like an Entrepreneur” webinar which will be held Jan. 21, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Oxford Academy High School Auditorium. President Rogers will present “Connections to Entrepreneurism and Applied Learning” during the event, which is free and open to the public. 

MORRISVILLE, NY— Five Morrisville State students have been awarded Caterpillar/Milton CAT Scholarships by the Morrisville College Foundation. The $2,500 scholarships, awarded to students in the diesel technology/agricultural engineering programs, are based on academic achievement and financial need. Scholarship recipients are:

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College student Justin Quiles, of White Lake, was recently awarded the Dr. McBride Criminal Justice Student Achievement Award by the SUNY Police Chiefs Association.  A junior in the college’s criminal justice bachelor degree program, Quiles is the first Morrisville student to receive the award since it was instituted in 2001. 

MORRISVILLE, NY— Dr. David E. Rogers was formally installed as the eighth president of Morrisville State College on Nov. 20, 2015 during a ceremony that showcased the close-knit MSC community. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—It was Delroy Young’s first experience preparing a five-course meal. The Morrisville State College student selected two fried slices of zucchini from a large bowl, placed them atop a creamy beer cheese soup, then topped it with a chipotle crème fraiche and pea shoots.  “Looks good. Looks good,” said Chef Kerry Beadle as he peered over his shoulder.
