SUNY Morrisville hosts free 4R Technical Field Day

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — SUNY Morrisville invites growers and agribusiness professionals to a 4R Technical Field Day on the college campus on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The event will showcase the 4R (right source, right rate, right time, right place) program, and will include   soil sampling, drone imaging and cover crop field demonstrations at the college’s Arnold R. Fisher Dairy Complex.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. Lunch is provided, as well as transportation to demonstration sites. Participants qualify for certified crop advisor (CCA) continuing education credits.

9:45 a.m.    Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) programs available to support implementation of 4R strategies - NRCS speaker

10:10 a.m.    The Nature Conservancy (TNC) 4R and Conservation - Gregg Sargis, director of ecological management at TNC 

10:35 a.m.    Precision agriculture map extracting value from different map layers - Avery DeGolyer, Western New York Crop Management CCA

11 a.m.        Coffee break and transportation to demonstration 

11:30 a.m.    Environmental Tillage Systems - Soil Warrior® demonstration

12:15 p.m.    Lunch (transportation to lunch and demonstration sites)



Afternoon demonstrations are in fields at the dairy complex.

1:30-3 p.m.      Rotating 20-minute demonstrations, which include: soil sampling technology from Western New York Crop Management and Growmark FS; sprayer calibration and drone imaging demonstrations by Cazenovia Equipment Company, Inc.; Cover crop roller demonstration by SUNY Morrisville; and more 

3 p.m.         Transportation back to parking lot
