Medallions hanging from graduates' regalia told the story behind the added pomp and circumstance that was visible throughout Morrisville State College's commencement ceremony today.
The keepsakes, embellished with the number 100, were among elements throughout the decorated ceremony that signified graduates were celebrating more than their accomplishments—they were also making history as the 100th graduating class.

Morrisville State College and the New York Society of American Foresters, Iroquois Chapter are hosting a “woodswalk” in celebration of the International Year of Forests.
The walk will be held May 21 at 10 a.m. at the college's Galbreath Farm in Morrisville. It will be led by Brendan Kelly, a Society of American Foresters certified forester, and assistant professor of environmental science at Morrisville State College.

Two Morrisville State College students were recently recognized for their volunteer efforts.
Receiving the Rays of Light Servant Leadership Award was Marguerite Whaley, of Smyrna, N.Y., a human services major at Morrisville State College's Norwich campus.
Thomas Longland, of Dunnville, Ontario, a sports, nutrition and fitness management major at Morrisville State College, received the college's Rays of Light Award.

The State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher recently announced the winners of the 2010-11 Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award, honoring 75 students from across the SUNY System, including Morrisville State College's Jonathan Fried (Jordan, NY) in the sport of men's lacrosse.
The award was created to recognize academic excellence along with outstanding athletic achievement.

The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team has earned a spot in the 2011 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship, announced Monday afternoon.
The tournament is a two-region, five-team bracket.

Morrisville State College hunt seat rider, Teal Pedersen (Manorville, NY) placed fourth overall in the intermediate equitation over fences class at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships held in Lexington, Kentucky Thursday.
Pederson initially placed third at the Zone Championships in the class, but due to an ineligible rider, she moved up to second place and earned the chance to compete for a national title.

Senior goalkeeper, Brett Leonard (Syracuse, NY) made 23 saves, including eight in the final frame, to lead second seed Keuka College men's lacrosse to an 8-7 victory over top seeded Morrisville State College in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship Tournament final Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.
Morrisville State drops to 12-4 overall while Keuka concluded their season with a 10-5 record.

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) recently announced its 2011 Men's Lacrosse All-Conference teams, naming six Morrisville State student-athletes to its three teams.
Adam Lewis (Painted Post, NY), Andrew Stein (Oswego, NY), Tom Longland (Dunnville, ONT) and Jonathan Fried (Jordan, NY) garnered first team honors, while Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, NY) and Thomas Owens (Cazenovia, NY) took home second and third team honors, respectively.

Morrisville State College faculty member Brian McDowell, of Hamilton, N.Y., has received the Morrisville State College Distinguished Faculty Award.
The award is presented to faculty members who display professional growth, personal and professional achievement, and have provided outstanding service to the college.
He will be recognized during the college's 100th commencement on May 14 at 1 p.m. in the new athletic stadium.

North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) top seed Morrisville State College men's lacrosse dominated visiting fourth seed Medaille College (5-9) by a 21-14 final in tournament semi-final action Wednesday afternoon in Morrisville, advancing to the NEAC Championship Title game Saturday.
Morrisville State (12-3) will face second seed Keuka College for the championship tournament title in Morrisville at 3 p.m. Keuka defeated Cobleskill 13-2 Wednesday in Keuka.

The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team concluded their regular season with a 9-4 non-conference victory over visiting Vassar College Friday night in Morrisville.
The Mustangs improve to 11-3 overall while Vassar drops to 5-9.
Morrisville State led 3-1 at the half before posting three goals apiece in the third and fourth quarters to claim the win.

The Alfred University women's lacrosse team's 2011 season finale, Tuesday evening, April 26, at home against Morrisville State, was postponed due to poor weather.
The game was stopped due to heavy rain and lightning. The stoppage came 52 seconds into the contest with Morrisville leading 1-0. No decision has been made on whether or not the contest will be made up.

The Mustangs claimed the regular season title for the second time with an undefeated NEAC record of 6-0, are the top seed in the tournament for the second straight year, and look to defend their 2010 NEAC Championship Title.

The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team, together with the Morrisville and surrounding communities, raised more than $2,800 Saturday, April 16th for the Wounded Warrior Project, raising awareness about the program which helps injured service members returning home from battle.
